The definition of culture is “the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group.” And it may well be that both culture and morality are less an agreement than a constant process of adding and subtracting effective rules for social cooperation and survival.

    There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written, or badly written. That is all. This elevation of beauty over morality does violence to the traditional transcendental synthesis of the good, the true and the beautiful, which Christian philosophers have rightly connected to the Trinity itself. Lawrence Kohlberg outlined one of the best-known theories addressing the development of morality in childhood. Kohlberg’s stages of moral development, which include three levels and six stages, expanded on and revised the ideas of Jean Piaget’s previous work on the subject.
